The lead ship of her class, USS Midway (CV 41) served from 1945-1992. Midway participated in the Vietnam War, the evacuation of Saigon and the Persian Gulf War. She was also the US's first forward-deployed carrier homeported in Yokosuka, Japan. She is now a well-done museum ship with many open spaces, aircraft and just as importantly, a crew of veterans to talk about aviation or life on a carrier. 70 years old and she still has a purpose.
